Tackling nutritional inequity

Each year, Grow It Green, plans and plants the farm and garden to reach more community members with sustainably grown fresh food to help alleviate hunger for foods that help people to work, learn, play and thrive in underserved communities. Nutrient dense food grown without toxic chemicals is more expensive making it even less attainable for low income neighborhoods. Grow It Green brings freshly harvested food with low transportation carbon emissions to community plates in NJ.

Donations are lovingly grown, harvested and given by staff and volunteers to bring food to Interfaith Food Pantry Network, nourish.NJ, Table of Hope, Newark SAS Farm to Table shares where distribution systems are in place. Through a voucher program for families recommended by Atlantic Health Family Health Care and Guidance and new sliding scale shares, we love to have people come to the farm to choose their fresh food, meet the farmers, and experience green spaces. These programs are funded by you, foundations and corporation support.

In 2023, we have begun a new FarmRx produce prescription program for families of children diagnosed with obesity. Our healthcare partners, Goryeb Children's Hospiral and Pediatrics of Morristown have identified the families that we are pleased to welcome for 21 weeks at the farm. Our mission is fulfilled by offering opportunities to be part of a better food system that introduces children to food and experiences that nourish them physically and mentally. We have plans to grow, but we need you to make that happen.

In 2023, you made it possible for us to give 8,000 pounds of fresh, whole foods to local residents and our community partner, Newark SAS, for Farm to Table Shares.
