The Greenhouse at Saint Elizabeth University
In 2016, under a partnership with the College of Saint Elizabeth- now Saint Elizabeth University, Grow It Green assumed day-to-day management of the greenhouse on campus. This partnership allows for education opportunities while providing a space for us to grow year round, all while supporting sustainability initiatives at the university.
Using non-GMO seeds, we carefully prepare the soil, and plant the seeds that grow into seedlings that we transplant to The Urban Farm and make available to the community at the annual Seedling Sale. This is where the process begins to bring you and the community fresh, local produce donated to local food distribution partners, or sold to customers at the Farm Stand.
Typically we host SEU students as volunteers from the university to assist with the planting. They are able to assist us and the greenhouse is a great place to learn about food systems. Hands-on experiences for these students at the greenhouse are an important part of our mission to increase food access by providing education and encouraging innovation.
